NAMM 2014: Gibson Jeff “Skunk” Baxter Firebird

January 25, 2014 by Josh

Another interesting new signature guitar from Gibson, the Jeff “Skunk” Baxter Firebird:

This features a traditional mahogany body and through-neck construction that has been part of the heritage of the iconic Firebird for decades. It has three mini-humbuckers with a pickup switching system designed by Baxter himself, allowing for any pickup combination on top of a coil tap system. You also get a classic chrome Lyre tail piece and cutting edge Steinberger tuners.

I’ve never been that much of a Steely Dan or Doobie Brothers fan, but I’ve always found Baxter’s playing very tasteful. An interesting side note…according to Wikipedia, Baxter has recently been serving as a military defense consultant.
