Eric Johnson Live From Austin, TX 1984

October 13, 2010 by Josh

Guitar Lifestyle reader Darren M. has come through again with news about another upcoming Eric Johnson release. This release is called Live from Austin, TX 84 and, according to Amazon, will be released on November 22. The Amazon link indicates that it is a CD version, but speculation on the EJ forums is that it may be a CD/DVD combo. I’ll be happy with just the CD, but I hope they do release a DVD along with the CD.

A member of the EJ forums speculated that the track list will be:

Song For Life
April Comes She Will (Simon and Garfunkel cover)
Tribute to Jerry Reed
I’m finding You — Rob Alexander (lead vocals)
Soulful Terrain – Take 1
Friends
Emerald Eyes – Take 1
Down on the Ground (Wes Montgomery cover)
All I Need — Eric and Rob share vocals
I’m Tryin’
Trademark
Cliffs of Dover-Take 1
Trail of Tears
Manhattan
Bristol Shore
Spanish Castle magic
Soulful terrain – Take 2
Emerald Eyes – Take 2
Cliffs of Dover – Take 2

Ah Via Musicom was his best record in my opinion. I’ve heard he rewrote the Desert Rose solo’s 6 times and recorded them 10 times before he was happy with it.

That wouldn’t surprise me about Desert Rose. Ah Via Musicom is definitely one of my favorites, but I also really liked Venus Isle and Alien Love Child.
