Feeling Uninspired
For the past few weeks, I haven’t felt much like playing guitar (or writing, for that matter). Every once in a while, this happens. I’m not really in a rut, I just lack the energy and inspiration to pick up the guitar and play.
Sometimes listening to some great guitarists will give me the inspiration and push I need to grab the guitar. Other times, watching a show will help inspire me. Sometimes, it just takes some time away from the guitar to make me want to grab it again.
Do this ever happen to you? What do you do to get past it?
Four Questions
Last week’s Four Questions sparked some great comments. Let’s see if we can keep the momentum going. Here are the four questions for this week:
1. What was the first concert you ever attended?
2. What has been your favorite concert you’ve attended so far?
3. What person or group do you most want to see that you have not seen yet?
4. What was the first concert you ever played in?
Here are my answers:
1. The first concert I ever attended was for the country band Alabama (we didn’t get many shows going through the town I grew up in). I think I was about 8 or 9 at the time. I don’t remember much about it, except falling asleep during the show
2. I’ve seen a lot of great and memorable shows, but my favorite was probably seeing Eric Clapton several years ago. He’s one of my all-time guitar heroes, and it was great to see him play in person.
3. Led Zeppelin
4. The first concert I played in was for a girl’s birthday party when I was about 15. It wasn’t much to write home about and I’m sure we didn’t sound that good, but it sure was fun!
Sebastian Bach as Next Lead Singer of Velvet Revolver?
In this week’s Four Questions, I asked who you would pick as the next lead singer of Velvet Revolver if you were Slash. Well, according to Sebastian Bach, Slash has talked with Bach about joining Velvet Revolver. However, it’s likely the drama might be too much if he were to join the band:
Not without reservations, Bach said his potential union with Velvet Revolver would be “awkward,” explaining that he prefers his current solo work to the work of Velvet Revolver. “It would all depend on music,” Bach said. “I wouldn’t just join the band just to join the band. If we came up with some incredible new songs, then maybe I’d think about it.”
Bach also made it clear that his loyalties are to Axl Rose, who’s maintained a longstanding feud with ex- Guns N’ Roses bandmate Slash.
Say it ain’t so, Slash!
Four Questions
It’s time for another episode of Four Questions! Here are this week’s questions:
1. If you were Slash, who would you pick as the next lead singer in Velvet Revolver?
2. How many guitars do you currently own?
3. What guitar do you plan to buy next?
4. What are your five “desert island” CDs?
Here are my answers:
1. This one was easy for me since I was a Soundgarden fan in the 90s…Chris Cornell. I’d love to see how he fits in with Slash and the rest of the Velvet crew.
2. Including my bass, I currently own five guitars: 1 acoustic, 1 classical, 2 electrics, and 1 bass.
3. This changes weekly for me based on what music I’m currently listening to!
Ultimately, I’ll probably buy a semi-hollow body at some point in the future, since I ended up returning Lucille.
4. The 5 CDs I’d want to have if I were trapped on a desert island would be: 1) Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood 2) Metallica - Master of Puppets 3) AC/DC - Back in Black 4) Led Zeppelin - IV 5) B.B. King - Live at the Regal. This list is also likely to change each week, but these five albums continue to move me every time I listen to them.
